Terror on the Fox

Everyone has a fear, something that freaks them out or something that scares them. I’m a huge scardy cat, so I am afraid of a lot of things from small spaces to spiders and creepy crawlers and tornadoes. One thing that also scares me to death is things popping out in front of me and loud random noises banging, so obviously I am afraid of haunted houses. So guess what I finally did this Halloween…I conquered my fear of haunted houses.

My boyfriend and I went to one on Friday night with one of my best friends and her boyfriend. We ended up driving to Green Bay to go to Terror on the Fox. When we pulled in, I was already creeped out because it was windy, dark, and raining outside. I drive into the grass parking lot and parked the car kind of far away. When I stepped out of the car I felt like I sank into the mud that was below my feet and then I heard loud music playing in the background. At this point, I was psyching myself out like I do about almost everything else.

Even though I was psyching myself out and didn’t want to get onto the train, I reluctantly got on. I was scared when we started moving towards the houses, but my friends were telling me to just have fun with it. So when the guy started coming around and trying to scare people, I jumped a couple times, but I tried to just have fun with it. When we got to the actual houses that we were going to walk through, I started to freak out again. We walked up to the guy to show us the way and there was a guy with an axe next to him. He started to follow us, and I started to freak out again, and since he knew I was scared he picked on me the most. My friends said that they can’t touch you, so I wasn’t as scared, but then he started to touch the back of my legs with his axe while we walked to the front of the house. I kind of flipped out on him, so he ended up stopping.

There were two houses we got to go through. The first one wasn’t bad, it was actually really cool with a circus freak theme with black lights and neon splattered paint everywhere. There was also a pitch black maze, and then some creepier rooms. I was never in the front or back of the line, so I didn’t get scared as much when they popped out, but I still jumped a little. Towards the end of each house I actually was surprised with myself because I started to have fun with it. We all were talking to the people in each room that were trying to scare us and I started to actually look in the rooms instead of having my face buried in my boyfriend’s back.

I would say that this experience of facing a sort of fear I had, I guess, was really fun. I’m glad I got to do it with some of my close friends, and I’m happy that they dealt with my, excuse my language, bitchiness when I freaked out before going into each house. I think I’m ready to actually go to another haunted house! Any suggestions?

Monopoly at McDonalds

I know this may be a really weird thing to write about, but I have to talk about how exciting Monopoly month at McDonalds is. I know that I go to McDonalds enough because it has fast, cheap food, and it’s open until god knows when in the morning, but when Monopoly time comes around, I feel like I go there ten times as much.

So you can get the game pieces on an assortment of medium drinks, big macs, chicken nuggets, and other stuff, and you get double the game play on large fries. I don’t think I’ve ever bought this many large fries at one time. I usually also buy large drinks since they’re only one dollar, but I’ve downgraded to buying medium drinks for one dollar this month just because they have game pieces.

Other than the game pieces you can get on these items, you can also win free food. I’ve won a lot of free fries, free burgers, and free drinks, so if anyone wants any just let me know because I will probably never use them. My friends and I go to McDonalds enough because they’re the only place open at 2 am, so when we get bored and hungry we go there, unless we have more money then there’s always Festival Foods.

I know that I probably will never win any of the prizes, and once I collect enough pieces, I know that I’ll just get the same ones, but I just can’t help but to keep playing. This is the only month where I go crazy at buying stuff from McDonalds, and I probably gain a lot of weight. Is it worth it? Probably not, but I just can’t seem to help it I guess.

Concerts!

Yesterday my friend’s band played at the EBCO center in Sheboygan. Unfortunately I had to work, so I missed them play, but I got to see them at my other friend’s house afterwards. They told me the show was epic though.

Concerts and shows have always been something I like to attend ever since I went to my first concert in 2007 for my birthday. I went to go see Papa Roach at Summerfest with a couple friends of mine, and it was an amazing experience. I not only got to see one of my favorite bands at the time, but I also got to experience the crowds, people watching, and live music of Summerfest. Ever since that concert I’ve been going to Summerfest and Warped Tour every year along with other concerts at The Rave, and local shows in Wisconsin.

When I go to a concert, it’s always a different experience, but every time I’m happy because I get to see my favorite bands play live and I get to sing along and see how they are live compared to on their CD. For different bands I see, there’s always a different atmosphere. For example, when I went to Lady Gaga, people were dressed in all different attires mimicking Lady Gaga herself, and the concert itself was like a musical telling a story along the way. When I go to see my favorite metal bands though, more people are wearing black, and there’s a lot more ‘throwing down’ and moshing. I would say I listen to a wide variety of music, so I’ve seen all sorts of people from Lady Gaga and Britney Spears to The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath , Yellowcard, and Panic! At The Disco. Each concert is the same with large crowds and everyone dancing and singing, but they are all different and fun in their own way.

Dancing and singing at the concerts are fun, but concerts are also a way I can hang out with my friends and meet new people while I’m at it. Especially when I go to local shows around town, like the one in Sheboygan yesterday, I get to see all of my friends, some I see every day, and some that I haven’t seen in a while. I get to catch up with everyone, and we’re all in an atmosphere we’re comfortable with which makes it much more fun. I get to hear my friends’ bands play, dance, and socialize with all the friendly people there. Concerts are amazing to see especially when they’re one of your favorite bands, but it’s not only fun to dance and sing, I like how they are social events also and something everyone can experience together.

My Moo-Cow & Blanket

I woke up the other morning, and I look over and my Moo-Cow is lying next to me and I was sleeping with my favorite monkey blanket that my Grandma got me. It always seems like there’s something that someone has in their bed that they sleep with every night, whether they like to tell you or not. It could be a pillow to an old stuffed animal or baby blanket. I like to sleep with my Moo-Cow and monkey blanket.

My Moo-Cow is a newer stuffed animal I got. I won him at the fair this year playing that bulldozer game. He’s fuzzy and soft with brown spots. His head is a bit large for his small body, but he’s a cute cow. I’ve always had some sort of stuffed animal I sleep with, but they usually get replaced throughout the years. My blanket, on the other hand, is something I try to take with me always. I got my purple monkey blanket from my Grandma one year for Christmas, and since then I always like to sleep with it.

People may not like to admit that they have a stuffed bear that their Mom gave them when they were a kid, or a small yellow baby blanket that they like to sleep with, but I’m okay with letting people know. I think it’s a normal thing to have something with you at night. It could even be a nightlight that plugs in to your wall.

I think the big thing with why we have stuffed animals, blankets, or pillows that we sleep with is it’s a comforting thing to have with you, and usually these things have meaning to them. Our family or friends buy us these blankets when we’re born, or stuffed animals when we’re sick or scared, because they are supposed to help comfort us. From that point on, we just can’t get rid of them. It’s just something that sticks with us from then on. That’s how it’s like for me and my stuffed animals, and especially with my monkey blanket.

Catfish

The social network, Facebook, is a phenomenon in the 21st century. You can talk to friends, catch up with old friends or acquaintances, and meet plenty of new and interesting people. But is everyone on Facebook really who they say they are? In the documentary, Catfish, Nev Schulman, his brother, Ariel, and their roommate, Henry Joost, end up going on a trip where they discover the truth about the friends Nev has made on Facebook.

Nev Schulman is a professional photographer who lives in New York. One day he receives a painting of one of his published photographs done by a child art prodigy from Michigan, Abby Pierce. They start off as pen pals in a way, where Abby will send him paintings she does of his published photographs, and then they become Facebook friends. Once he is friends with Abby on the network it spans out to becoming friends with her whole family. One person in particular whom he gets really close with is Abby’s half-sister, Megan. They develop a very close relationship through Facebook, which leads to intimate phone conversations where he starts to develop feelings for her.

Nev’s brother starts to film their Nev as he receives more paintings from Abby and develops a closer relationship with Megan. Megan says she’s a dancer, veterinarian, and singer. She starts to send Nev songs she sings, but he and his brother and roommate, soon start to discover some flaws in what Megan says. She is sending them links that she stole from singers on Youtube. He has plans to then meet with her to see if she is actually as real as she says she is. They arrive in Michigan to meet Abby and her family, and hopefully find Megan and see who she is in reality. When they reach Abby’s house, they meet Abby, her mother, Angela, and her step-dad, Vince, but no sight of Megan. Megan’s excuses become more and more unrealistic and they discover later on that there really is no Megan. I don’t mean to ruin the ending, but Nev discovers that the woman he was having an intimate long distance relationship with was Abby’s mother, Angela. She then tells them that she has over ten fake profiles, and two different cell phones, one which is hers, and one which is “Megan’s.” She also lied about many other aspects of their family’s lives, where she must come clean once Nev discovers that it’s all a lie.

So should you trust everyone you meet, especially on a social networking site, such as Facebook. We all know that there’s people out there that make up things about themselves on their profile, or over exaggerate on things that may not be true, but there are some out there that are fake and nonexistent. Nev discovered the hard way that everything may seem great on Facebook, but not everything’s as it seems, especially on social networking sites, where you have the ability to be whomever you want. He ended up learning a lesson. After figuring out this lie, he deleted many Facebook friends and decided not to trust everyone on Facebook, especially the strangers that may add him. In the end though, he did still talk to Angela, and she deleted her fake profiles, and now has only one which is her own, real one.
